A little bit of this and a little bit of that! Recipes, Excersize, Inspiration, Etc... |
Soooo I’ve been sick for three weeks and wasn’t able to go to the gym for one of the weeks. I almost died on Thursday when I finally made it back there!! However, today was a much better experience and I feel so much more energized now that I’m getting back into a routine.
Now this Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, which starts the beginning of Lent in the Catholic Church. Since I am Catholic and over the age of 16, I have to abstain from meat on Fridays and give up something as a sacrifice. I figured it would help if I could tie it into something about my health and fitness.
I’ve decided that I would make myself follow my 1 cheat day a week rule to a T during Lent. However, my fiancé firmly believes that if he says he wants Braums ice cream, I will cave. He’s probably right. :-( That is why this will definitely be a sacrifice and challenge for me. We will see how this goes!! Positive thoughts!!
Now just to figure out what to eat on my no meat days….since I hate fish!!
I saw a quote on pinterest earlier today (I don’t know the original author) that said
“It’s no longer about being skinny, it’s about being fit and healthy.”
I really struggle with explaining this to people. I am constantly getting “but you are so skinny already” “maybe you need to eat more” “get this girl a hamburger” “oh it’s always those skinny girls that like going to the gym” “oh you don’t even have to worry about that”
Well in all actuality, I do have to worry about it. Yes I am skinny in most people’s eyes, but I busted my butt to get here. My family has a running joke that I am the fat, ugly, sister, with chubby cheeks and bad hair…. Yes it sounds horrible, but it truly is all in good fun. However, at certain points in my life, all of the above were true statements. Instead of accepting myself as those things, I changed them! It’s always been an uphill battle, but I’m willing to make the climb.
So when people say “you are already so skinny” — I work hard to look the way I do.
“maybe you need to eat more” — I eat 4-5 times a day, I just know how to manage calories/carbs/fat grams.
“Get this girl a hamburger” — please do!! It’s not about restricting, it’s about moderation.
“Oh you don’t even have to worry about that” — EVERYONE needs to worry about their health.
“Oh it’s always the skinny girls that like going to the gym” — there are days I dread going, but I do it anyway.
And there we have it……my 2 cents ;-)
Here’s the lunch I had yesterday…..I love eating this salad! It’s very low in calories so it is a great healthy meal. If you wait to put in the dressing, it is easy to pack for a work lunch.
1 cucumber (peeled and chopped)
5 grape tomatoes (quartered)
1/4 cup reduced fat shredded cheese
1/4 cup chopped red onion (more or less to taste)
2 tbs bacon bits (or fully cooked cubed chicken- if you want more protein)
2-3 tbs Fat free zesty Italian dressing (sometimes i use vidalia onion dressing)
Mix all ingredients together and stir in dressing. :-)
This weekend was actually going great…. Until 9:00 last night! Let’s recap…..
Yesterday I got up and worked out (fiancé came with me to MY gym- yay!) My routine consisted of 20 minutes cardio, some leg work, some ab work, and then another 20 minutes cardio. Not bad for a Saturday and a severly sore throat!
We ran by GNC and picked up some new Jack3d (on sale until February 23!) and then headed home for lunch. I had a cucumber salad and was excited about how good I was being! This was around 1:45….
Then we left to head up the hill to Fayetteville (45 minutes away) for a friend’s birthday dinner at Shogun’s at 7:00. I had a plan for this dinner- small portions….to go boxes….steamed rice….etc.
Sounds good so far right? Well, people were late, restaurant was busy, craziness ensued and we didn’t get seated until 9:15!!!!
Let’s just say there was not even a hint of cucumber salad in my stomach at this point…..I swear I’m claiming temporary insanity due to hunger!! I ordered sushi, hibachi chicken- which comes with rice and noodles and veggies, and a cocktail!! I ate the WHOLE plate of food- What the Heck?!?
Today has been just as bad because I felt as though I already ruined my weekend, so Wendy’s for lunch was no big deal right? I really need to stop thinking this way! One screw up does not mean I can screw up over and over that day/weekend!!
However, I know that tomorrow is a new day and I already have my breakfast, lunch, and dinner calories entered into MyFitnessPal. Even before my workout I will be below my calories and macros for the day. That makes me feel a little better about my weekend screw up!!
I’m brand new to this whole blogging thing, so bear with me!
I’m 25 (26 this Friday), a fourth grade literacy teacher, a fiancé with 4 months left before the wedding, a workout fan, and a healthy eating attempter…. That about sums it up with me. I’ll be posting a mixture of ideas, recipes, daily occurrences, etc on here. (Hence the name- “Collection of Randomness”).
This should be fun!! :-)
